A Quiet Evening
I had to work yesterday afternoon and I hate working on Sundays. It complicates my life, means I have to miss a meeting I usually attend, and simply feels wrong. Needless to say, I tend to come home from working a Sunday feeling just a tad bit grumpy. I walked in the door to a dinner that needed to be cooked, a son who wanted to talk about something that was worrying him, and, I assumed, a husband who was feeling a bit neglected. I cooked dinner, talked to my son, and then my husband and daughter announced they had movie plans for the night. I am pretty sure the…

White Nights and Early Mornings
Things I was thinking about at 2:30 this morning A list of the groceries I forgot to buy when I was at the store the day before. What I am going to make for dinner tonight. What state I would want to move to if we moved again. What I miss about the state we used to live in. That unkind thing I said ten years ago. That embarrassing thing I did in elementary school. What I would need to figure out if my husband suddenly died of a heart attack. How I would deal with life if one of my kids suddenly developed a terrible illness. How I would…

In Which the Germs Finally Win
Last week I was wandering around this park in Massachusetts with my parents and my kids. This week I am at home with Covid. My husband and son also have Covid and my daughter, who is in Connecticut with my parents, is sick too. Before you feel too sorry for us, none of us are horribly sick and I barely qualify as sick at all. In fact, I put it down to allergies at first and a negative Covid test seemed to confirm it. Then my husband and son became ill so I tested again and this time it was positive. I can’t go to work before at least Saturday…

This and That
My husband just headed out the door for his morning walk but then was back again in about two minutes. He had found a package for me on the doorstep and knew it would brighten my day. Aren’t these lovely? The British Library was kind enough to send them so my thanks to them. I actually read Green for Danger earlier in the year and I can highly recommend it. I am thrilled about The Edinburgh Mystery. My daughter and I were dreaming yesterday of a return trip to Scotland. Hopefully, if we ever make it back our trip will be filled with a little less murder and mayhem than…

Day to Day
This was my view as I drank my tea and puttered on my computer this morning. The world is finally turning green and colorful and today it is going to be somewhere around 80 degrees. I am not pleased about the warm temperatures but I do love the color. A walk in the park is a constant search for the latest spring flowers and baby animals. The goslings are starting to hatch and their parents are not pleased to have people walking on the paths nearby. They hiss and run at us as we walk past. We still haven’t seen the beavers this year but I live in hope. This…
