Sometimes Reality is a Bit Much

I usually have Tuesday off from work and every Monday evening I go to bed thinking about the lovely, leisurely, relaxing day I am going to enjoy when I wake up. I envision myself waking up slowly, drinking several cups of tea, chatting with my husband, making a lovely lunch, reading my book for a while, and then ending the day feeling calm and able to deal with anything.

Yeah, I don’t know what world I think I live in. This morning I woke up with a jerk at 6:58 to the awareness that the roads were a mess and I was going to have to leave the house to drive my daughter to school in precisely 7 minutes. Usually, she walks but the sidewalks haven’t all been cleared which would leave her walking in the middle of a main road. I ran out the door in my leggings and t-shirt and got halfway down the road when I realized I had forgotten my glasses. I debated going back home to get them but then my daughter would have missed the bus that takes her from the local school to her technical high school so I just kept going. It was probably not my wisest decision but hey, everyone survived.

In a triumph of optimism over my usual pessimism, I decided that I could still enjoy a peaceful, relaxing day as long as I made one quick phone call to the insurance company to find out why they didn’t want to cover a prescription. Yeah, I still don’t know what world I think I live in. There is no such thing as one quick call to an insurance company. One hour, multiple phone calls, and an appeal started, and I still don’t have the prescription or any optimism left.

By this point, I had to go grocery shopping, pick up my daughter from the high school because the sidewalks still aren’t clear, and make dinner. A delivery I have been waiting for has been delayed. And it is possible I just snapped at my husband for asking a perfectly reasonable question.

I keep chasing after that magical Tuesday filled with peace, books, and tea but I think I am going to have to check myself into a hotel and leave my phone behind in order to achieve it.
