This and That

My husband just headed out the door for his morning walk but then was back again in about two minutes. He had found a package for me on the doorstep and knew it would brighten my day. Aren’t these lovely? The British Library was kind enough to send them so my thanks to them. I actually read Green for Danger earlier in the year and I can highly recommend it. I am thrilled about The Edinburgh Mystery. My daughter and I were dreaming yesterday of a return trip to Scotland. Hopefully, if we ever make it back our trip will be filled with a little less murder and mayhem than this book contains but, in the meantime, I will solve Scottish mysteries from the comfort of my couch.

My daughter had an appointment yesterday morning so I had to pull her out of school. By the time the appointment was over it was too late to send her in so we went to the zoo instead. We had to practically drive right by on our way home and it sounded like a nice, relaxing thing to do. She loves the zoo. We got something to eat and spent an hour or so wandering past our favorite animals. The red pandas were very active which made us both happy. Usually, they are sleeping. This one is eating bamboo. It isn’t the greatest photo and he chose the least photogenic part of his enclosure in which to eat but he was adorable so I am putting the photo in anyway.

When I am not dreaming of trips to the U.K. I am dreaming of trips to Germany and Austria. I am not sure what set of this latest obsession with a country but one of these days I am going to Vienna. Or Munich. Or any of a number of other cities. I got this almost brand new guidebook free at a used book store. They have a punch card where if you buy ten books you get one free and I hit ten books purchased the other day. I also am doing German on Duolingo. So far, I can discuss the height and intelligence of my family and order coffee or tea. So, all my bases are covered. I might as well book my tickets now.

This is Chocolate. Chocolate belongs to the animal care program at my daughter’s high school. The animals need to go home with students for the summer so he is ours for the next couple of months. Chocolate is slowly warming up to us. He still tends to hiss when we get too close but my daughter has been feeding him mealworms and apparently the way to his heart is through his stomach. He is very cute and I am fonder of him than of the rats my daughter wanted to bring home. She would have her own zoo if we let her.
If you could book a trip right this minute where would you go?

Book packages are the best aren’t they? So much anticipation in the opening, then such joy waiting on every page.
I’d be off to Japan in a heartbeat if I could. We were there four yrs ago and loved every single second…and there is so much more to see. Europe just feels so far away right now, even though friends are starting to travel there again, I find it hard to imagine being in an enclosed space for so long with so many people still rather off-putting.

My son has always wanted to go to Japan. We feel the same way about flying. We want to start traveling again but have a lot of concerns about the actual flying. One of these days…

I must give The Edinburgh Mystery a go. I hope that you do get back to Edinburgh sometime – keep us informed. We are going back to Orkney soon for a week and we’re planning a British road trip for later on in the year hoping to get as far down as Bath. We normally go to the Netherlands to visit my brother and his family but I think we’ll leave it until next year. I am trying to learn Dutch so that I can speak to my wee great-nieces, I somehow think that by now their English will be brilliant compared with my Dutch! The animal photos are lovely and I’m completely with you on the rats.

We dream of going back to Scotland. I am sure we will make it one of these days. Your trips sound lovely. I hope you post photos from them. We went to Bath during one of our London trips and loved it.

Chocolate is getting a little more social. We introduced him to our cat and they tolerated each other.
