Two Lovely Gifts
Every fall for the last few years Chronicle Books has published another book in their series that features letters and mementos from the book. I love these editions and my husband has always bought them for me. I was so pleased to see that Anne of Green Gables was to be published this year. We preordered it and it arrived a week or so ago. It is so lovely. I especially like the map of Avonlea. I would happily frame this and hang it on my wall. I still have my childhood edition of Anne of Green Gables, which I am fond of for sentimental reasons, but it the ugly…

Bright Spots in a Grey World
I am starting to think that the sun never shines in Ohio. We have had grey day after grey day for what seems like weeks now. The rain is endless and the lawn behind our building is a muddy quagmire. Vintage Nancy Drew
One of the benefits of working at the library is that I am able to see the donations for the Friends of the Library book sale as soon as they come in. My co-workers have figured out that I like old books so when this box of vintage Nancy Drew mysteries was donated on a day I wasn’t working I was immediately messaged to see if I wanted…

Books, Books, and More Books
I live by the basic principle that any bad day can be improved by the purchase of a few books and any good day can be made even better by the purchase of a few books. I have had a few good days and a few bad days lately. We all know what that means. My husband and I went away for a few days and I made a return visit to Books in Stock. I wrote about my first visit here. We stayed in a hotel just down the street and I could literally walk there so, of course, I did. Every romantic weekend away with one’s husband involves…

Bookish Enthusiasm
If you are a reader then you probably like to chat about books. Unfortunately, many of us don’t have that many people in our day-to-day lives who are happy to indulge our bookish enthusiasm. Thankfully, when we have bored those around us to tears with our single-minded concentration on books we can always turn to a book about books to satisfy our need for bookish conversation. I read two books about books in the last few weeks and am here to talk to you about them. One of the real joys of books about books (I feel that I will be typing that phrase frequently in this post. My apologies.…
