Two Lovely Gifts

Every fall for the last few years Chronicle Books has published another book in their series that features letters and mementos from the book. I love these editions and my husband has always bought them for me. I was so pleased to see that Anne of Green Gables was to be published this year. We preordered it and it arrived a week or so ago. It is so lovely. I especially like the map of Avonlea. I would happily frame this and hang it on my wall. I still have my childhood edition of Anne of Green Gables, which I am fond of for sentimental reasons, but it the ugly 1970s edition. I had been wanting a prettier copy and am so happy this became available. I reread Anne fairly regularly and, in fact, just did so when I was recovering from surgery. This will be so much fun next time I am ready for a reread.

I recently wrote a review of We Took to the Woods by Louise Dickinson Rich. A regular reader here, Joan, contacted me and said that she had another book by Rich and would like to send it to me. It arrived last week. It is such a nice, old copy. I love the dustjacket. I am so looking forward to reading this. Thank you, Joan. It was very, very kind of you and is greatly appreciated.

I haven’t heard of the Chronicle editions – but I would love to have a map of Avonlea! I think we might have the same 1970s editions.

We probably do! The girl on the cover doesn’t look at all like my mental image of Anne.

I too have a 1970s edition of the Anne books. I love mine, and it didn’t occur to me until much later that the photos of Anne on the covers were very off. I have not given them a reread in quite a while, but I was thinking of Windy Poplars and Chronicles of Avonlea the other day. Maybe it’s time? Intriguing knitting project on the go, I see!

It is always a good time to read the Anne books again!

I’m thinking about it. But then it won’t be in the book…
