London Calling
I’m home now. Unfortunately. I am back to the real world after a week of book shopping, eating too much cake, and endless walking. Hopefully, the cake and the walking balanced each other out. I did buy quite a few books. Seventeen to be precise. I will write a blog post about them all if anyone is interested but writing about seventeen books is more than I was up to today. But oh, the book shopping in London is joyous. The weather was very nice. It only rained for one evening though it was cloudy a few days. It was definitely chilly but that is fine as long as it…

Books and Plans
This book came in the mail yesterday. I don’t really know anything about it but I found it online for something like $3.00 and I just couldn’t pass that by. I was so pleased that it even came with the bookmark. I ordered another Persephone for about the same price but that hasn’t arrived yet. I had told myself that I wasn’t going to order any more books for a while but then my husband came home and told me about an interview he had listened to on the BBC. It was with an author I have never heard of but he said it was very interesting and that it…

Little Things #7
This weekend we went to Barnes and Noble. I had a couple of gift cards and an afternoon spent wandering around a book store sounded peaceful. Remind me never to go to Barnes and Noble on the weekend again. It was crazy getting there and it was crazy once we were there. So many people, and I am not a people person. Despite that, we had a nice time. The kids each found something they wanted and my husband kindly donated his gift card to me. What a nice man. I got this. I need another copy of Pride and Prejudice like I need a hole in my head but…

Book Recommendations: The British Home Front During WWII
I have mentioned a few times that I am very interested in the social history of WWII, especially in relation to the British home front. I can’t really pinpoint what started this interest, probably a book at some time or another, that is how most of my interests start. Whatever began it, I am just fascinated with the everyday life of people living through the war. I like finding out what they thought, how they felt, what they did to stretch the rations, how they clothed their families, what they did for entertainment, how life changed and how life stayed the same. Maybe it is just my nosy side coming…

Happy Things
In November my husband and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I know, that is a long time. I’ll wait while some of you figure out how old I must be. Just so you know, I was very young when I got married… Anyway, this past weekend my husband gave me my anniversary gift early. We are going to London for a week in April. Without the kids, they are going to spend the week with my parents. Before anyone starts feeling too sorry for them, they have done this before and they are convinced they are getting the better part of the deal. They are spoiled rotten by…
