    Things That Make Me Happy

Books, stacks of books all around me so I always have plenty to choose from. Second-hand bookshops with plenty of treasures to be unearthed. Thrift stores for the same reason. Tea. Waking up on the first morning of a vacation with plenty of time in front of me. A new, pretty notebook. Fountain pens. Baking cookies. Walking on the beach. A hug from one of my kids. A hug from my husband. Occasionally, a few hours home alone. Writing something I am kind of, a little bit, maybe, happy with. Listening to music in the car with my daughter. Walking around a city where no one knows me. Chocolate. Talking…

    Twenty-Seven Years

Last week we celebrated our twenty-seventh wedding anniversary. Twenty-seven years. I might as well resign myself to the fact that we are no longer young. However, for two not-quite-old-but-no-longer-young people, we managed to have a very good time. My parents offered to have the kids spend Friday night at their house and we decided to check into a hotel near them. Since we only had twenty-four hours it didn’t make sense to spend four of those hours driving back and forth between our house and my parents’ house. Golden Moments

Life just stinks sometimes, doesn’t it?  It is full of stress and illness and a bit of exhaustion.  We complain of bad bosses, mounds of laundry, and kids that never pick up their shoes.  We focus on the things we haven’t gotten done and the things done too quickly. Things That Make Me Happy

These flowers.  These flowers make me happy.  My gardens are a mess.  They are full of weeds and overgrown.  They really need to be taken apart and redone.  I am slowly working at it but at my current rate of progress, they will be done when I am 185.  However, that does not prevent some gorgeous flowers from blooming amongst the weeds.  From a distance it even looks like I am quite the gardener, just don’t get too close or the weeds will give me away. Fudgsicles.  Fudgsicles also make me happy.  They taste like childhood and summer.  When the weeds get to be too much I eat a fudgsicle…

    Beach, Blooms, And Books

If that isn’t the picture of happiness right there, I don’t know what is.  We were in Maine over the weekend and it just confirms my belief that there is nothing like the ocean for soothing the soul.  It was grey and gloomy while we were there and downright chilly two of the three days but that doesn’t really matter.  The sound of the ocean, the smell of the salt breeze, and the feel of the sand between your toes is wonderful no matter what the weather.  If you can add in a dinner of fish, clams, scallops, shrimp, and clam chowder well, life doesn’t get much better than that.…
