    Golden Moments #16

As usual, I am going to start by saying that it has been a long time since I have written one of these posts. Maybe I should write them more often because they force me to look for the good instead of concentrating on the negative. To be honest, concentrating on the negative is my default setting many days. However, here we go; one dose of positivity coming up. My husband had a doctor’s appointment last week (bear with me because that isn’t the golden moment) and after he was done we went out to lunch at a new-to-us restaurant. I have been very underwhelmed with the restaurants in the…

Golden moments are those bright spots in your day or week that make you forget the dreariness and drudgery of everyday life. I know people say life is not all dreariness and drudgery but when I am cooking the five millionth meal of the week or going to the grocery store for the seven billionth time I am not totally convinced of that fact. However, my recent walk to the grocery store was immeasurably improved by all the beautiful wildflowers growing beside the lake. Isn’t the way the sun slants through them lovely? We have baby deer, tiny bunnies, and young groundhogs all living in the park behind us. They…

These posts are where I collect the good moments of recent days. Tellingly, I have not written one in about nine months. However, life is looking up and I have a few happy things that have occurred lately. We went to the zoo in Cleveland last week. Both our kids love the zoo. Well, they aren’t actually kids, they are 15 and 20, but take them to the zoo and they immediately revert to about age six in the best possible way. They are wildly enthusiastic and they march us through the whole place refusing to miss viewing one single animal. I’ll go to the zoo weekly if it means…

    Golden Moments #13

I just checked and the last time I wrote a “Golden Moments” post was in January. That sums up nicely the state of the world. To be honest, I would not say my life has been full of golden moments in the last month or so. There has been a lot of difficult things going on. However, I use these posts to try to focus a bit on the little things that brighten a difficult world. Let’s hope I can come up with an entire post’s worth of good things. I have my doubts. My daughter and I went apple picking with some friends. Celia immediately reverts to about 5…

I haven’t written one of these posts since last May. I suppose that says something about the past year. However, I am making an effort to concentrate on the positive so let’s give this a try. I am reading Little Women for the five millionth time. It is possible that number is accurate. I read it over and over and over when I was a kid and I still read it regularly. It is like sinking into a warm bath or climbing into a freshly made bed. So comforting. I know exactly what is going to happen and exactly what everyone is going to say and I wouldn’t have it…
