A Poem for a Thursday #338

It’s been a while since I have featured a Mary Oliver poem and we all know she is one of my favorite poets. Today’s poem makes me think of my grandmother who definitely was someone who grabbed life with both hands well into old age. I hope I can be that kind of old lady. Also, my grandmother loved Cape Cod just as Mary Oliver did.

I wish I was twenty and in love with life
and still full of beans.

Onward, old legs!
There are the long, pale dunes; on the other side
the roses are blooming and finding their labor
no adversity to the spirit.

Upward, old legs! There are the roses and there is the sun
shining like a song, like a body
I want to touch

though I'm not twenty
and won't be again but ah! seventy. And still
in love with life. And still
full of beans.
