On The Other Side

Well. I live in Pennsylvania now. It has been several months of decisions, chaos, boxes (so many boxes), and maybe a few tears.
Have I mentioned I hate moving?
Every single time, I insist I am never moving again. And yet, every single time I find myself packing up all our possessions and relocating. We don’t seem to believe in moving locally; we only do long-distance moves. I do see one more move in my future since we are renting a townhouse now and will eventually want to buy a house if the market ever cooperates. However, I am hoping we can make that a local move. We shall see.
My family insists this move would have been easier if I didn’t have book-buying and thrifting addictions. I insist I don’t know what they are talking about while desperately trying to fit all my books on the shelves and all my clothes in the closet. I don’t have too many books and clothes. I simply have too few bookshelves and too small a closet. Right? Right?!
So far, we like the area. All the necessities of life are around the corner. We are within easy driving distance of several interesting large cities. The Appalachian Trail runs through the town we live in. Our drive home to Connecticut to visit family is now 5 hours instead of 9.5. It isn’t home yet but it has potential.
Today we are going to visit our new library and get library cards. Maybe then it will be home.

As long as there is room for the book shelves…

There is always room for bookshelves.

Book buying and thrifting are healthy addictions.

That is what I tell myself.

Welcome to Pennsylvania! I was born here and spent the first 20 years here. Then I followed my boyfriend to Boston. We spent the next 35 or so years moving around New England (Boston, Nahant, MA, Hampstead, NH, Boston, Marshfield, MA). On to Philadelphia and, finally, Lancaster (which is where I was born. Don’t tell anyone, but my heart remains in New England. I still own land there. But Lancaster is a lovely old Colonial city, if you’re on this side of the state. Reading has an art museum with a lot of Impressionists. Philadelphia has pretty much everything, including a bunch of my relatives I wish you much happiness in your new home. (And please keep writing your lovely posts!)

I forgot you were in PA though I think you told me at some point. We are less than an hour from Lancaster and drove through it while we were exploring the area. We really liked Lancaster and hope to explore some more once we are settled. We are not too far from a lot of cities and trails and all kinds of things.

I am sooo with you! I moved from my little house into a mobile home, which has more space on paper but less space because of how it’s laid out. That was in the beginning of March, and I’m STILL unpacking boxes. WE can both rest assured that at some poin in the (hopefully not so distant) future, all the boxes will be unpacked and everything will have found a home. I hope!

Every time I think we have finished the boxes we find another one somewhere! I hope you are all settled soon.

I hope you’ll like your new area. So how come that you move so often, is it because of work?
jllee656
No, not work. Just changing life circumstances.

I hope this turns out to be a good move for you all, however long your stay. We are also thinking of moving again, last time, honest! Closer to Edinburgh this time.

Katrina!
Hi! It is so nice to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. So far, this seems to be a good move. I hope whatever you decide about moving is good for you too. How are the grandchildren?
