A Little Bit of Nature

These photos are from a few months ago when I was still recovering from foot surgery. I was going a bit stir-crazy and my husband suggested we drive down to a nearby park where I could sit in the shade with my camera and he could take a little walk. It was an inspired idea. It was so lovely to be outside. We brought a chair, snacks, drinks, books (of course), and my camera and I hobbled over to the little pond. There was a lot to watch on such a beautiful summer day though I was continually frustrated because the goldfinches refused to alight on any bushes within camera range.
I had completely forgotten about these photos until I was downloading photos from another excursion for a post that will come out next week. It was nice to be reminded of this quiet, peaceful afternoon.

The photos really aren’t anything special since my foot still didn’t allow me to walk much so I simply sat in my chair and photographed anything that came within range. I do think all the birds, bees, fish, and assorted other creatures warned each other to stay away because they all kept flittering and splashing around just too far away.

A little bit of quiet, a little bit of peace, and a little bit of nature are good for the soul. Sometimes we simply need time to sit and observe the little things around us.

What a lovely post! As you suggest, a quiet afternoon in a pretty spot with birds, bees and other animals around you, and, of course, a good book, is just perfect, whatever the frustrations of post-injury life.
I sympathise with those as I’ve had one minor injury after another this year, none of them (thankfully) much to write home about but all of them conspiring to keep me off my feet and channelling my inner Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

I’m sorry you have been dealing with injuries. It just gets so boring not being able to do what you want, doesn’t it? This was a perfect escape from the boredom of recovery.

Your photos are lovely, what a beautiful reminder. What kind of bird is it? I’m presuming that the one above that is a bush baby, but I might be wrong!

The bird is a red-winged blackbird. I love them and their song because they were all over the fields at the farmhouse we used to rent for a week in the summer when our kids were little. They bring back such happy memories. The little guy is a chipmunk. Or a ground squirrel. I am a little hazy on the differences. I think chipmunks have stripes on their faces. Anyway, all chipmunks are ground squirrels but not all ground squirrels are chipmunks.
