Bookshop Visit//Loganberry Books

Loganberry Books is located in an unprepossessing section of Cleveland, Ohio but the bookstore itself is exactly what you would ask a secondhand bookstore to be. It is deeply photogenic, filled with lots of lovely books, and has a friendly and knowledgeable staff. There are places to sit, nooks and crannies filled with books, typewriters everywhere you look, and I hear there is even a bookshop cat though I didn’t see him. If you visit their staff page on their website you can read all about him. Maybe he will make an appearance next time I visit. Because there will be a next time. Just look.

Almost my first reaction (after I gasped loudly, punched my husband in the shoulder, and asked if he had seen the arches filled with books. And the library ladder. Two library ladders. I’m surprised I didn’t faint.) was to marvel at just how big the store is. It keeps going and going with rooms leading off of rooms. I ended up feeling a bit overwhelmed. There was so much to look at and so many wonderful books to choose from.

Most of the books are secondhand but they did have some new books. For the first time ever, I saw a selection of the British Library Women Writers Series. There were so many authors I had never heard of before and so many that I have only seen when book shopping in the U.K. Many of the books were out of my typical budget but they were not prohibitively expensive. I tend to be frugal with my book buying so I gravitated toward the more inexpensive options. Happily, there were plenty to choose from. You can see what I bought in the photo below.

So, would I recommend Loganberry Books? Absolutely. I told my husband I wanted to live there. When I was scrolling through Twitter this morning and saw they had posted a job ad I briefly considered applying even though I am perfectly happy working at the library across from where I live and I don’t need a 40-minute drive to work. Loganberry Books is the type of bookstore that a person could happily spend several hours wandering through and still not see it all. I know because that is exactly what happened to me. And it is the type of bookstore where you could easily spend all your money and still not buy all the books you saw that you wanted. Maybe it is a good thing I’m not going to be working there. I’ll just visit again and enjoy its charm and wonderful book selection.

If you ever find yourself in Cleveland, Ohio with time on your hands, money in your pocket, and a burning desire to add innumerable books to your shelves then Loganberry Books is the place to go. Maybe you will even get to meet Otis, the bookshop cat.
