A Mediocre Reading Year
I realize “mediocre” is not a ringing endorsement of my last year’s reading. After all, mediocre means “of moderate quality, not very good.” To be honest, that is a fair description of my entire year. Two surgeries and a back injury definitely put a damper on the year. However, I actually am happy with my mediocre reading. Some people might have decided that if they were going to be housebound for a large portion of the year then that would be the perfect time to read all the books they have been meaning to get around to. My Favorite Books of 2017
It was -3 F (-19 C) when my daughter went out to the bus this morning. That is just plain ridiculous. And have I ever mentioned that my husband works outside? He called me at lunchtime and, in his slightly understated way, said that yes, he was a bit chilly. They have been instructed to leave their trucks running all the time. He is going to be frozen solid by the time he gets home. I, however, have one more day at home before I go back to my regular schedule. In Which I Attempt To Pick Favorites
I am not good at picking favorites and I am especially not good at picking favorite books. There are so many variables. A new book or reread? Fun fluff or deep and meaningful? Fiction or nonfiction? I frequently sink into a morass of confusion and eventually give up. But this time I am persevering and giving you a slightly arbitrary selection of my best reads of 2016.
