Golden Moments #20

Golden moments are the little things in life that make everything worth it; the happy things, the shining moments of joy. I try to concentrate on these things to combat the negativity of the world in general, but I don’t think I have been doing a particularly good job since I haven’t written one of these posts in over a year. While the last year hasn’t been much fun I am sure I can come up with some nuggets of joy from the recent past. Let’s give it a try.
The photo above was taken at Old Sturbridge Village. If you are a long-time reader of this blog then you know I love Sturbridge Village. It is a living history museum in Massachusetts. If you do a search you should find a good number of posts about it. When we were in Connecticut last month we took one day to go to Sturbridge Village, just the four of us. It was absolutely lovely. The weather was perfect and the village was the same as it always was. We all have so many memories wrapped up in the place. I grew up going there and then my kids grew up going there. We wandered around, admired the animals, talked to the interpreters, and basically recreated our childhoods. What more can you ask for out of a day?
Last night I went to an NBA game with my two adult children. Now, I am not a sports fan at all. But I am a big fan of my kids and I find it intensely flattering that they asked me to go with them. Adult kids who enjoy your company are the best.
One of my husband’s oldest friends is in town visiting us this week. It is so lovely when old friendships stand the test of time and you can simply pick up where you left off even if you haven’t seen each other in years.
My husband decided I needed some peace and quiet so he went for a walk when I was due to come home for lunch. I had 45 minutes of a silent house. No one spoke to me, no one asked for anything, no one breathed in my general direction. Those were 45 golden minutes.
Cups of tea, bites of chocolate, good books, successful knitting projects, crunchy leaves, good songs, and comforting hugs. These are all the daily golden things that get me through. What are the nuggets of joy in your life?
