It’s the Little Things

Sometimes it is not the big, expensive treats that bring us the most joy. It is the silly, little things we buy on impulse. I provide as an example this absolutely glorious vase I bought at Target a month or so ago. I walked in the doors and saw an entire shelf of him and his friends looking at me. Obviously, I could not bring them all home, even if they were only $5.00 each, but I did bring one home. He looks even more glorious with a bouquet emerging from his head. I think the ideal flowers would be fresh-picked wildflowers, jammed in haphazardly, but for now, he has had to make do with grocery store flowers.

People regularly talk about the joy of a good pen (at least the people in my life do) but they rarely discuss the joy of a well-sharpened pencil. People really need to mend their ways and appreciate the pencil. I swear my handwriting is neater when I use a pencil and I enjoy the way it feels on paper. I bought these when I was grocery shopping the other day. I think there were nine or ten in the package and they were less than $4.00. That is joy at its cheapest. I shared the joy and gave a few to my daughter since she also appreciates a good pencil.

My daughter and I have been bribing ourselves to go to the gym. Every so many visits we can buy ourselves a tiny treat. My treat of choice lately has been these bracelets. They are only about $3.00 each on Etsy and they are so pretty. A stack of beaded bracelets sounds like the perfect summertime accessory.

This is Clover. She is a charming little deer and my daughter has her friend named Acorn. Are my daughter and I both full-grown adults? Yes. Did we buy ourselves stuffed animals? Also yes. Do we plan on taking them in our bags when we go on little adventures and taking pictures of them out and about? Why, yes, yes we do. It brings us both joy.
