A Book and a Project

Please admire the cowl I knitted. Isn’t it pretty? I am quite happy with it. It was a very easy pattern but it is the first thing I have made that doesn’t have a bunch of egregious mistakes in it. If you see any please don’t tell me. I am now working on a hat with cabling. My personal knitting consultant (one of my co-workers) showed me how to do cables during a break in a day-long boring work meeting. After that, I would like to try simple colorwork. Knitting is a bit addictive.

The book is one of my favorites of the British Library Crime Classic volumes of short stories. I tend to have mixed feelings about short stories and that is especially true when they are mysteries. I don’t always feel that the short story format lends itself to the development and then resolution of a mystery. However, I felt many, if not all of these, were very well done. There are stories by some very well-known names such as Dorothy L. Sayers, Ngaio Marsh, and Christiana Brand. All the stories have some connection to the world of the theater. That leads to a lovely mix of impersonations, on-stage deaths that become a little too real, and overwrought playwrights to mention just a few scenarios.

I have already pulled another volume of Crime Classic short stories off my shelves. I’ll be reading Crimes of Cymru: Classic Mystery Tales of Wales later today. I’ll report back. And I’ll show my latest knitting project too. Why else would I have a blog?
