Golden Moments #18

It has been a while since I have done one of these posts so if you aren’t familiar with them, this is where I list all the things that have made life special lately; the Golden Moments in life.
My husband and I went to Germany recently. That is a whole list of Golden Moments in and of itself but for my purposes here I am listing the time I sat by this pond, read my book, and people-watched while my husband went for a walk in the park. It was lovely and peaceful and we went and bought pastry afterward. What more can you ask of out of a morning?
Last night my daughter and I sat on the couch drinking tea and paging through a stack of travel magazines we had accumulated. We chatted and showed each other photos and when we were done she told me it was fun and asked if we could do it again tonight.
My son spent an evening patiently teaching me how to play one of his favorite complicated card games. He works full-time and our schedules don’t overlap as much as I would like so it was very nice to just spend some time with him.
I had Covid last week and was miserable and had no appetite. My husband was worried I wasn’t eating and started regularly bringing milkshakes home from his walks. They made me feel loved and cared for and felt amazing on my sore throat. Continuing the food theme, I went back to work yesterday and he walked over and picked up Mexican food for dinner so there would be food waiting when I got home.
I called my 98-year-old grandma last week. Her health hasn’t been very good lately and I have been worried about her but it was good to hear her voice. She was very clear-headed that day and asked about all my family by name and remembered details of our visit over the summer. You can see a couple of posts about her here and here.
It was our 33rd wedding anniversary this past Saturday. I had Covid (we specialize in disasters and illness around our anniversary) and I was feeling a little sad about that. But then we received lots of phone calls and texts and a package or two. It was lovely.
So there you have it. It is nice to focus on the positive for a few minutes. I hope you have had a few Golden Moments in your life lately as well.

Love the idea of golden moments. I had a couple recently. Last weekend my eldest son accompanied me to a gig of band from the 70s and 80s. He didn’t know the songs but I had no one who wanted to see them. We chatted before the band started and shared jokes about the age of the audience. He bought the drinks as it was too crowded for me to get to the bar and when we left early he made the crowd part for me.
My other golden moment is the occasional Friday Porch Drinks, as we now call it. Both my sons, my husband and I are teachers. One son doesn’t live with us. Every so often, and yesterday afternoon was one of them, we sit on our front porch, listen to music, chat and have a few drinks. Helps unload the stress of the week – mainly the joys of crazy parents. Yesterday was topped off with some takeaway and more laughs around the dinner table. Golden!
