The Goblin Report//Issue 1

“The Goblin Report?” I hear you and I understand the confusion. However, this is a new series that my daughter and I will write and photograph together and she has named it. I think of ghosts and Halloween when I hear ‘goblin’. She, however, says that you should Google “Goblincore aesthetic”. Those words don’t even seem to go together in my world but in hers, they involve the woods, small cute creatures, mushrooms, and lots of other cool, nature-themed things. So, actually, I suppose it is an appropriate name for this series. We hope to go on lots of outdoor adventures and document our exploration of the natural world here. We want to go to new parks, collect wildflowers, identify plants, find a few bones, and photograph all of it.

Our first adventure was to a park nearby that has a daffodil trail every spring. We were just a little early to experience the full glory of the blooms but it was still very pretty. There is a trail of about a mile that meanders through the woods with all different kinds of daffodils planted in the woods along it. Many of the different types are labeled. It is such a pretty sight to see them all blooming against the woodsy background.

There were a few other things just starting to bloom. We ambled slowly along looking carefully as we went. This was not the intense hike my husband tends to want to take us on but we enjoyed it greatly. I do like to putter with my camera and my daughter kept grabbing it from me to take a photo or two.

There was a stream that ran through the park. We tried to get down the hill so we could look for fossils but it was just too muddy. We will have to try from a different location. A woman we passed on the trail said that the whole stream area should be covered with bluebells a little later in the spring. We will definitely have to return to see that.

This was a lovely, if short, outing to introduce our Goblin Report. We have lots of plans for the future and we hope you will enjoy coming along on our adventures with us.
