A Bookish Kindred Spirit

I know. This is a ridiculously large number of books. And yes, I did just buy them all. However, I spent less than $10.00 ($3.00 a bag) on all of them. I think I have mentioned before that I work at a library. That means that when donations come in for the ongoing book sale I get the chance to see them before they go out on the shelves. Recently, I walked into the back room to find out that apparently, my bookish kindred spirit had donated a huge selection of books. My daughter says I have old lady taste in books so I am perfectly aware that my bookish kindred spirit’s books may have been donated because relatives are clearing out her library after her death but I prefer not to think about that.

I would love to sit down and chat with her about books and London and history. Obviously, she loves all these things. Just look at those book stacks. To be honest, I could have taken home just about all the boxes of books she donated but that would be even more ridiculous than what I did buy. There were a ton more history books that looked interesting but I had to draw the line somewhere. There were also a number of books in the collection that I already own; Josephine Tey, Barbara Pym, and eight other Georgette Heyer mysteries that I bought for my sister.

I wonder who she was (for some reason I assume it was an older woman) and I wonder what she was like. Obviously, she had very good taste in books! I wonder which of these were favorites of hers. I hope she is still alive and reading all the other books left on her shelves. I wish her a good cup of tea, a lovely slice of cake, and all the time in the world to enjoy her books. I wish that for you too.
