Harney & Sons Tea Subscription

When life gets you down all you need is tea. Those are words to live by, aren’t they? I took my own advice recently and signed up for a tea subscription from Harney & Sons. I am absolutely thrilled that I did. Life may still be annoying but at least I have new teas to drink while I am dealing with it.
Harney & Sons was originally founded in 1983 in Salisbury, CT and now is based in Millerton, NY. Years ago, my aunt, cousin, and I went to visit their tasting room and shop so I already knew that I like their tea. Here is the description of their shop that is posted on their website.
Harney & Sons offers the highest quality hand-picked, full-leaf teas from the finest tea gardens and estates. From tea beginners to avid tea drinkers, our selection of rare teas, signature blends, and fun flavors in loose tea, tea sachets, and convenient tea bags are perfect for everyone.
Their tea of the month program costs $14.00. You can choose loose leaf tea for $19.50. I chose the cheaper option because I am…frugal. The first month’s shipment includes the big, sturdy mug shown in the photo at the top of the post. The description of the program says that you receive 20-30 teabags in each shipment but my first shipment included a package with 50 teabags and, reading the reviews, they do seem to be generous with their shipments. They also threw in a handful of individual teabags.
My first tea is New England Breakfast Blend. It is a black tea with subtle maple notes. I was ridiculously pleased to get a New England tea since I am sometimes homesick for the New England area. I am not a huge fan of overly flavored teas but this is subtle enough that I enjoy it. My husband and daughter don’t particularly care for it though.
I am already eagerly looking forward to my next tea shipment. I know I won’t like all the teas I receive but I have enough tea drinkers in my life that I can pass along anything I am not particularly fond of.
Next time life gets me down I will make a pot of tea, curl up in my chair, and let the scent of maple transport me back to New England.
