A Day Out//Mill Stream Run Reservation

My husband and I are continuing our weekly outings to new parks though we missed last week because it was so hot and muggy I refused to stir out of the air conditioning. This park visit was from two weeks ago. I thought it was hot and muggy then too but my husband said it was nice out and I can’t refuse to go anywhere all summer (or can I? Hmm.) so I gave it a shot. I loved the park but was definitely too warm by the end of our unexpectedly long hike. The trail map was lacking in clarity and we ended up on a 7 mile hike instead of the gentle 2 or 3 mile exploratory walk I was expecting.
The trail was multi-use so there were a lot of mountain bikers out and about and we had to keep moving out of the way. That was okay. I am a bit of a klutz so I would probably crash as soon as I tried to ride down a forest path but it was fun to watch them.

I am trying to use my camera more these days which is fun; plus it provides a perfect excuse to stop every now and then and cool off. I haven’t used my camera much at all over the course of the last year because we haven’t gone anywhere much and I am reteaching myself how to use it.

There is a little river going through the park which thrilled me. My dream is to live next to a river or stream. Then I can spend my life leisurely sitting by the water listening to the sound of it flowing. The only more soothing sound in the world is the sound of ocean waves. This was a lovely little area to putter around. I spent quite a while pulling apart rocks to see if I could find any fossils. I didn’t but I live in hope.

There were some ruins in the middle of the woods but all the park information provided was the fact that they were ruins. I would like to know just a bit more. Ruins, yes. But ruins of what? And from when? I’ll have to do a little more research and see what I can find.

We ended the afternoon hot and thirsty but thoroughly pleased with our latest park discovery. Well, we also ended the day with ice cream, as is becoming tradition, but, as is also becoming tradition, I ate it before I could take a photo. My parents are in town this week so I am sure I will have lots more adventures to report soon. Probably there will be a lot more ice cream eaten as well.

Was your ruin a charcoal making fire maybe?

I think it is just a house foundation but you never know!

What a lovely place to hike! I also dislike hiking in the heat and humidity, but it looks like it was nicely shaded in the woods!

Seven miles is a long hike in muggy weather, you deserved the ice cream. The woodland looks very similar to the woods on our doorstep although your stream is wider. I love the ruins of that home, I presume the walls were made of wood so it just rotted away over the years. I wonder what the original inhabitants were like!

I did a little research and couldn’t find anything about the house. I wondered about the inhabitants too. And you are right; a seven mile hike definitely means I deserve ice cream. We went to another very nice park on Lake Erie last week. I am sure there will be a post about it one of these days.
