The Goblin Report//Issue 2

In 1968 over 2,000 dinosaur tracks were discovered in Rocky Hill, CT during the excavation for a new state building. Today, a geodesic dome covers 500 of the tracks and also contains a discovery room with fossils, minerals, a bird sounds station, and other displays local to the area.

My daughter has been fascinated by dinosaurs since she was tiny and now that she is grown that fascination has not diminished in the slightest. She can still lecture extensively on dinosaurs, fossils, and the flaws in the Jurassic Park movies. I had taken the kids to the park when they were small and then we were planning to return when Covid hit. Our recent trip back home to visit friends and family seemed like a perfect opportunity to make up for that missed visit. My parents and younger brother accompanied us.

It truly is an amazing thing to see tracks that were made by actual dinosaurs so many years ago. Dinosaurs can seem almost like mythical creatures; we read about them and watch movies about them. But here they were; real and walking around and living their lives in Connecticut.

The discovery room was fascinating as well. The drawers full of exhibits were well done and interesting. We spent a long time in there while my daughter and brother investigated every single drawer available.

The park also has 2 miles of trails covering a variety of habitats and the Dinosaur State Park Arboretum. The Arboretum contains over 250 species of conifers and many plants families that lived during the age of the dinosaurs such as ginkgoes and magnolias. Children also have the opportunity to mine for fossils and cast a dinosaur track.

If you have a dinosaur obsessive in your family or if you simply would like somewhere to walk a few easy paths I highly recommend the Dinosaur State Park.
