Golden Moments #14

These posts are where I collect the good moments of recent days. Tellingly, I have not written one in about nine months. However, life is looking up and I have a few happy things that have occurred lately.
- We went to the zoo in Cleveland last week. Both our kids love the zoo. Well, they aren’t actually kids, they are 15 and 20, but take them to the zoo and they immediately revert to about age six in the best possible way. They are wildly enthusiastic and they march us through the whole place refusing to miss viewing one single animal. I’ll go to the zoo weekly if it means our basically grown kids will happily have a day out with us.
- Our new apartment has a balcony. I love sitting out there in the morning while I drink my tea, read my book, and listen to the birds.
- My daughter made a new friend. This is big news when you move to a new area 600 miles away and you are 15. We were invited over by a family in our new congregation to sit outside and visit. They invited their niece as well. The two girls were silent for about the first five minutes and then didn’t stop talking for four hours. This is especially impressive since they are both shy, quiet girls. They bonded over a common love of Star Wars and have moved on to an obsession with longboarding. My daughter is eagerly waiting for the longboard she ordered to be delivered. I have a feeling there are a few (hopefully minor) injuries in her future. We did insist on a helmet though.
- Yesterday, when the girls met up in the park behind our apartment, I met the girl’s mother. She reads. And, amazingly enough, she reads Georgette Heyer. I think we are destined to be friends too.
- We have developed a nightly habit of walking around the lake in the park behind our apartment. Some combination of the four of us is out there almost every night and it is a lovely way to end the day and to spend time together.
- I made a Victoria sponge cake with homemade lemon curd. It was delicious.
- I needed a new wallet/clutch. I knew exactly the type I wanted; room for my phone, lots of card slots, crossbody strap so I can carry it by itself or put it in a bigger bag. I thought it would take me a while to find one however, I walked into a thrift store and found exactly what I was looking for. It was brand new, tags still on, for $11.00. It usually sells for $90.00.
I am hoping there will be more frequent golden moments in my future. Hopefully, life is looking up for you too. Tell me something nice that has happened in your life recently.

It really seems that your move has worked out well – better even than you could have hoped for. So glad you’re enjoying your new life & long may it continue!
Just after reading your email, I opened another that recommended a Georgette Heyer podcast, you might want to investigate it ?

It does seem like a good move so far. Thanks for the podcast recommendation.

But let’s get material for a moment: a photo, please, of your thrift shop scoop!! 😉
