A Poem for a Thursday #104
Brian Bilston has been called the “unofficial poet laureate of Twitter.” As is true of many people, I stumbled across his poetry one day and was pulled in by his seemingly simple poems that somehow touch a chord or make the reader laugh. Here is a BBC article if you want to know a bit more about him.
In order to grow, expand, widen
his lexicological corpus,
Roger bought, acquired, purchased
a synonymopdia, a thesaurus.
Soon, presently, without delay,
he no longer ran out of things to say,
speak, utter, express, articulate,
give voice to, pronounce, communicate.
This was all very well, fine, great,
wonderful, super, terrific,
but his friends, mates, pals thought him
boring, tedious, dull soporific.
So let this be a warning,
an omen, a sign, a premonition,
it’s all very well to show learning,
education, knowledge, erudition,
But here’s a top tip
a suggestion, some advice,
don’t ever let it stop you
from being concise,
brief, short, clear, pithy,
succinct, compendious, to the point.

Thanks for this lovely light-hearted poem – we all need these in our lives at the moment. The reason I have not gone on to Twitter is for the very same reason Brian gives in his poem ‘The Day Twitter Went Down’, that’s contained in the link you attached – time! It’s a shame, as he’s very funny!

Twitter can be a bit of a time sink. It can be hard to balance the interesting things you can find on there with the time it is possible to waste!
