Sometimes I look for poets and poems that are new to me and sometimes I go back to ones that have become favorites. I don&#8217;t think I have read a poem of Mary Oliver&#8217;s that I haven&#8217;t liked.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don&#8217;t you imagine the leaves dream now<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0how comfortable it will be to touch\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>the earth instead of the<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0nothingness of the air and the endless<\/i><br \/>\n<i>freshets of wind? And don&#8217;t you think<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0the trees, especially those with<\/i><br \/>\n<i>mossy hollows, are beginning to look for<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>the birds that will come-six, a dozen-to sleep<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0inside their bodies? And don&#8217;t you hear<\/i><br \/>\n<i>the goldenrod whispering goodbye,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0the everlasting being crowned with the first<\/i><br \/>\n<i>tuffets of snow? The pond\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0stiffens<\/i><i>\u00a0and the white field over which<\/i><br \/>\n<i>the fox runs so quickly brings out<\/i><br \/>\n<i>\u00a0 \u00a0its long blue shadows. The wind wags<\/i><br \/>\n<i>its many tails.
