She won the May Swenson Award. I didn&#8217;t find much information about her but I like this poem.<\/p>\n<p><i>They are taking so many things with them:<\/i><br \/>\n<i>their sewing machines and fine china,<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>their ability to fold a newspaper<\/i><br \/>\n<i>with one hand and swat a fly.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>They are taking their rotary telephones,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and fat televisions, and knitting needles,<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>their cast iron frying pans, and Tupperware.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>They are packing away the picnics<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and perambulators, the wagons<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and church socials. They are wrapped in<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>lipstick and big band music, dressed<\/i><br \/>\n<i>in recipes. Buried with them:\u00a0 bathtubs<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>with feet, front porches, dogs without leashes.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>These are the people who raised me<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and now I am left behind in\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>a world without paper letters,<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>a place where the phone<\/i><br \/>\n<i>has grown as eager as a weed.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I am going to miss their attics,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>their ordinary coffee, their chicken<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>fried in lard.
