Last month my husband and I went away for a few days to the Mohican State Park and the adjacent Mohican State Forest. The state park is 1,100 acres and the state forest is 4,525 acres. The park is about sixty miles away in a generally southern direction. The Clearfork Gorge, Mohican river, and hemlock forest provide plenty of scenic opportunities and lovely hikes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have lived in Ohio for three years now and I am still not resigned to the fact that the state is relatively flat and lightly wooded. It is pretty and much more rolling than Illinois, where I have also lived, but the landscape is not home to me. However, the area down by the state forest was much more heavily wooded and hillier. It made my heart happy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see from the photos, the river was high when we were there. It had been raining a ton and we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to walk much. Thankfully, the rain held off until we were driving away from the park. The trails weren’t as muddy as I was afraid they would be though we did have to scramble our way through a few times. I really need to get proper hiking boots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do like a walk with water so with a river and a couple of waterfalls I was very happy. My husband is happy anytime we are walking so he was in his element. The park is huge and we were only able to explore a tiny portion of it. The next day it rained so we were forced to go to bookstores instead. What a pity. We do want to go back and do some more walking. It really was lovely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
