I enjoy his down-to-earth style and ability to make the everyday beautiful. There is a meditative quality to his descriptions. I have been waiting for months to use this poem and now that it is October it is time. I hope you like it as much as I do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">Dawn comes later and later now,\nand I, who only a month ago\ncould sit with coffee every morning\nwatching the light walk down the hill \nto the edge of the pond and place\na doe there, shyly drinking,\n\nthen see the light step out upon\nthe water, sowing reflections\nto either side\u2014a garden\nof trees that grew as if by magic\u2014\u2014\nnow see no more than my face,\nmirrored by darkness, pale and odd,\n\nstartled by time. While I slept,\nnight in its thick winter jacket\nbridled the doe with a twist\nof wet leaves and led her away,\nthen brought its black horse with harness\nthat creaked like a cricket, and turned\n\nthe water garden under. I woke,\nand at the waiting window found\nthe curtains open to my open face;\nbeyond me, darkness.
