{"id":424,"date":"2015-09-11T11:01:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T11:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2015\/09\/11\/kindred-spirits\/"},"modified":"2020-10-28T17:57:54","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T17:57:54","slug":"kindred-spirits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2015\/09\/11\/kindred-spirits\/","title":{"rendered":"Kindred Spirits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you read <i>Anne of Green Gables<\/i> when you were young? \u00a0I did, over and over. \u00a0I spent a long time wishing I had red hair, freckles, and just half of Anne&#8217;s spunk. \u00a0I also spent a long time hoping to find a friend who would be a kindred spirit. \u00a0Now, don&#8217;t get me wrong, I had friends, and they were good friends. \u00a0However, I was convinced there was something more out there. \u00a0I just knew that somewhere there was another girl who thought the way I did and reacted to things the way I did and when we met we would just click. \u00a0There would be none of this getting to know each other nonsense. \u00a0We would just be friends forever. \u00a0Kindred spirits.<\/p>\n<p>But life doesn&#8217;t always work that way, does it? \u00a0Frequently, the people we are friends with are the people that are there. \u00a0They are the people we work with, go to school with, share beliefs with. They are the people who have kids the same ages as ours, people who have little bits of their lives in common with little bits of ours. \u00a0They are good people and good friends. \u00a0Many times they add amazing things to our lives because they are different than we are.<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes we still want the kindred spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Because, honestly, there is nothing like talking to someone who just gets you. \u00a0Someone who follows the twist and turns of your mind and doesn&#8217;t keep asking you what you mean. \u00a0Someone you can be yourself with.<\/p>\n<p>I have been thinking a lot about friendships lately because of some drama going on among people I know. \u00a0Does everyone want the same thing out of friendships? \u00a0I am sure they don&#8217;t. \u00a0And I am sure we don&#8217;t all define a good friend in the same way. \u00a0I wonder sometimes if continuing to look for kindred spirits sets us up for loneliness because friends like that are few and far between. \u00a0But then I think of that almost magical feeling when you connect with someone and you know you have found a friend. \u00a0It is almost like falling in love.<\/p>\n<p>I have also been thinking about friendships because my daughter has been rereading <i>Anne of Green Gables<\/i>.
