It is hard to let life get you down when you have that in front of you. \u00a0The photo is angled so you can&#8217;t see the house right behind mine. \u00a0We will pretend it is all just open fields behind me.<\/p>\n<p>We went apple picking today. \u00a0My daughter was thrilled. \u00a0She is still young enough that she is easy to please. \u00a0My son came along and pretended he didn&#8217;t belong with us but I think he kind of liked it. \u00a0With a teenager that is all I ask for. \u00a0I remember going places with my parents and pretending I wasn&#8217;t related to them. \u00a0As if people believed the 14-year-old was totally grown up and independent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-zdTcM9LPigQ\/VgcVSneb14I\/AAAAAAAABRY\/_1k4IBeDEqE\/s1600\/IMAG0205.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMAG0205-572x1024.jpg\" alt=\"apple orchard\" width=\"356\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Apparently, it has been a bumper crop this year. \u00a0The trees were just loaded with apples. \u00a0I would reach up and pull one off and three more would just tumble down on their own.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-35gRtxL4R44\/VgcW_ViaViI\/AAAAAAAABRs\/lFR391s9Brs\/s1600\/IMAG0221_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMAG0221_1-1024x536.jpg\" alt=\"apple tree\" width=\"640\" height=\"334\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I love the fermenty (not a word, I know) smell in an orchard. \u00a0It just smells like fall. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t really looking much like fall yet. \u00a0We had an unusually warm September and that is harming the fall foliage. \u00a0We might not get great color this year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is one more picture of my daughter in the orchard just because her happiness makes me happy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-yKih9itYKfs\/VgiNMo_UikI\/AAAAAAAABTk\/UJNG8EsDC40\/s1600\/IMAG0206.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/IMAG0206-572x1024.jpg\" alt=\"girl at orchard\" width=\"356\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p>I know it is a bit of a cliche, but I really love this time of year. \u00a0Summer is nice but I am not a hot weather person. \u00a0The heat and humidity just make me melt into a puddle, so when the cool crisp days come around I feel like I have so much more energy. \u00a0Besides, I like to cook and it is much more pleasant if your kitchen isn&#8217;t an oven all by itself. \u00a0Today I made a big pot of chili, oatmeal cookies, and two loaves of bread. \u00a0The smell of freshly baked bread is right up there in my top five aromas. \u00a0Does anyone else have a list like that? \u00a0Mine would probably be freshly baked bread, the smell of the ocean, that freshly bathed baby smell, lilacs in the spring, and the autumn smell of crisp air and fallen leaves.<\/p>\n<p>Now I am off to read the first sentence of about 20 books before I decide on one to read. \u00a0That is the only way I seem able to pick a book. \u00a0I keep reading first sentences until one pulls me in and I keep reading. \u00a0Maybe not the most sensible way to choose a book but it is what I have done ever since I was a little girl. \u00a0How do you decide what to read next?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was the view out my kitchen window the other evening. \u00a0Isn&#8217;t it gorgeous?
