Let the light of late afternoon\nshine through the chinks in the barn, moving\nup the bales as the sun moves down.\n\nLet the cricket take up chafing\nas a woman takes up her needles\nand her yarn. Let evening come.\n\nLet dew collect on the hoe abandoned\nin long grass. Let the stars appear\nand the moon disclose her silver horn.\n\nLet the fox go back to its sandy den.\nLet the wind die down. Let the shed\ngo black inside. Let evening come.\n\nTo the bottle in the ditch, to the scoop\nin the oats, to air in the lung\nlet evening come.\n\nLet it come, as it will, and don't\nbe afraid. God does not leave us\ncomfortless, so let evening come.\n\nLet Evening Come\nJane Kenyon<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
