{"id":401,"date":"2015-11-07T13:12:00","date_gmt":"2015-11-07T13:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2015\/11\/07\/a-walk-in-woods\/"},"modified":"2020-10-28T17:29:52","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T17:29:52","slug":"a-walk-in-woods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2015\/11\/07\/a-walk-in-woods\/","title":{"rendered":"A Walk in the Woods"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-zWC6JnB0-t8\/VjzRBkzYwRI\/AAAAAAAAB_4\/5i1HLSTVTAQ\/s1600\/IMG_20151103_153408.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_20151103_153408-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"woods\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>My kids had the day off from school earlier this week so I took them out to lunch and for a walk in the woods. \u00a0Lunch wasn&#8217;t anything fancy, just fast food burgers at Wendy&#8217;s, but that is what they wanted. \u00a0The walk in the woods, however, was definitely something special.<\/p>\n<p>We went to a state park near us. \u00a0We have been there before to swim in the pond, but we didn&#8217;t realize that there are all kinds of trails throughout the acres and acres of land surrounding the pond.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-BTNQdOiUIp8\/VjzWSDXNZsI\/AAAAAAAACAs\/1L7hpA_m53Y\/s1600\/20151103_141802.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151103_141802-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"a girl in the woods\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>We crossed a little bridge and meandered up a hill. \u00a0My son was almost out of sight ahead of us. \u00a0My daughter had to stop to look at everything and climb on everything climbable and I kept stopping to take pictures.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-E3LgYaekAHo\/VjzSLdg1MBI\/AAAAAAAACAI\/RImJAm35Q2g\/s1600\/20151103_135641.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151103_135641-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"a boy in the woods\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Here he is semi-patiently waiting for us to catch up. \u00a0It was a gorgeous sunny day and it didn&#8217;t feel at all like November. \u00a0We didn&#8217;t even need jackets. \u00a0We only saw two other people the whole time we were walking. \u00a0It was so peaceful. \u00a0It looked like it was raining leaves. \u00a0They just kept coming down slowly, swirling all around us. \u00a0Squirrels and chipmunks were running frantically through the brush and my daughter was convinced if we were just quiet enough maybe we could surprise a bear. \u00a0I am really glad we didn&#8217;t! \u00a0That would be more excitement than I would need on an afternoon walk.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-0lugICY5JJM\/VjzTwLbGKHI\/AAAAAAAACAU\/QLQrLvjg9iY\/s1600\/20151103_140651.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151103_140651-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"a boy in the woods\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>He is still waiting patiently, as you see. \u00a0He was having more fun than it looks like. \u00a0He told me the woods are more fun than his favorite computer game so I am viewing the walk as a huge success.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-sZTZBIDtmyQ\/VjzUHoHiKRI\/AAAAAAAACAg\/hxirXoQ001k\/s1600\/20151103_144431.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/20151103_144431-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"woods and water\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>We ended up talking about all the books the kids have read that are about people stranded in the wilderness. \u00a0<em>Hatchet<\/em> by Gary Paulsen was one they mentioned. \u00a0Also <em>The Swiss Family Robinson<\/em> and <em>My Side of the Mountain<\/em>. \u00a0My son loves the idea of being out in the middle of nowhere, having to depend on your own wits to survive.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, it was a very nice afternoon. \u00a0We will have to go back with my husband before the weather gets too nasty.
