{"id":376,"date":"2016-01-11T12:48:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-11T12:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2016\/01\/11\/little-things-7\/"},"modified":"2020-10-28T17:05:30","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T17:05:30","slug":"little-things-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2016\/01\/11\/little-things-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Things #7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend we went to Barnes and Noble. \u00a0I had a couple of gift cards and an afternoon spent wandering around a book store sounded peaceful. \u00a0Remind me never to go to Barnes and Noble on the weekend again. \u00a0It was crazy getting there and it was crazy once we were there. \u00a0So many people, and I am not a people person. \u00a0Despite that, we had a nice time. \u00a0The kids each found something they wanted and my husband kindly donated his gift card to me. \u00a0What a nice man. \u00a0I got this.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-VEWkpe4EReM\/VpOjufbJ2zI\/AAAAAAAADAM\/qhPN-dQXWAk\/s1600\/20160111_074156.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/20160111_074156-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pride and Prejudice--Jane Austen\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I need another copy of<em> Pride and Prejudice<\/em> like I need a hole in my head but it is just so pretty. \u00a0I picked it up and I was lost right away. \u00a0I carried it around and kept telling myself I was going to put it back but somehow I was still holding it as we walked up to pay. \u00a0I am now madly rushing through all the books I have going so I can sit back and luxuriate in reading a pretty copy of one of my favorite books. \u00a0Buying books because they are attractive has never been my thing so I am not sure what came over me but I am just going to go with it.<\/p>\n<p>I also bought <em>All Our Worldly Goods<\/em> by Irene Nemirovsky. \u00a0I recently read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/2015\/12\/what-happened-to-winter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Suite Francaise<\/a> and enjoyed her writing style. \u00a0This is described as &#8220;a novel of love between the wars&#8221; which makes it sound sort of corny. I am sure it isn&#8217;t, \u00a0but I wish they hadn&#8217;t used that line. \u00a0Why are so many books described in the same way in the blurbs on the back? \u00a0This one is also haunting, elegant, and poignant. \u00a0It is possibly all true, but the words are used for so many books that they start to lose their meaning. \u00a0That being said, prepare for a review in a little while in which I tell you the novel was about love between the wars and it is haunting, elegant, and poignant. \u00a0Don&#8217;t say I didn&#8217;t warn you.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-yXUPMqymT3o\/VpOkGdHYhoI\/AAAAAAAADAc\/JgH-9DTvAgM\/s1600\/20160111_074301.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/20160111_074301-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Suite Francaise--Irene Nemirovsky\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>This week I started watching<em> Home Fires<\/em>. \u00a0It was on PBS not that long ago. \u00a0I recorded it and never got around to watching it, \u00a0I don&#8217;t know why. \u00a0A show about England during WWII is right up my street. \u00a0So far I am enjoying it. \u00a0I think I want to live in a little English village and wear 1940s clothes, just without the war.<\/p>\n<p>I also bought suitcases this week. \u00a0I know, that doesn&#8217;t sound wildly exciting. \u00a0However, they are really a gift from my parents since they gave us some money for our anniversary. \u00a0Plus, they are for our trip to London in April since the ones we had got pretty much destroyed on our last flight. \u00a0Anything that makes London seem closer makes me happy. \u00a0I have a list of book stores as long as my arm and I am trying to narrow it down to the essentials. \u00a0Maybe I should locate coffee shops nearby for my husband. \u00a0He likes book stores but not quite as obsessively as me. \u00a0He does, however, like coffee to an obsessive degree. \u00a0I am also trying to decide what else we want to do since it won&#8217;t be all book stores all week. \u00a0We have been before so the main touristy things have been done. \u00a0I think there are some National Trust properties in London that we can tour. \u00a0I like touring houses and gardens and seeing how people used to live. \u00a0I am sure this won&#8217;t be the last time I mention London on here. \u00a0I talk about it a lot. \u00a0If I am shopping with my daughter and stop to look at something, a purse or some shoes or whatever, she will look at it carefully and then pronounce judgment on whether or not she thinks it will be good for my trip. \u00a0I have trained her well!<\/p>\n<p>It has been a rainy and miserable day but I made cinnamon bread and it is just about ready to come out of the oven.
