I must admit this is just a random compilation of things that have been confusing me lately. \u00a0Or in some cases, just things that have been driving me nuts. \u00a0So here we go, a few things that make no sense to me.<\/p>\n

Cake mixes and canned frosting make no sense to me. \u00a0Now I like to bake, but I understand that isn’t true of everyone. \u00a0However, making a cake is not complicated. \u00a0The chocolate cake recipe I use simply requires you to dump everything in a bowl and mix it for two minutes. \u00a0There are no unusual ingredients and no complicated directions. \u00a0Why would you use a box mix if cooking from scratch is that easy? \u00a0And frosting is made out of only a handful of ingredients. \u00a0Simple. \u00a0I just don’t get it. \u00a0Homemade tastes so much better.<\/p>\n

People who don’t ask questions also are incomprehensible. I worked with someone new today. \u00a0She was friendly and pleasant but she expressed zero interest in me and my life. \u00a0I don’t think all conversations should be about me, I just think it is common courtesy to express interest. \u00a0( I read a post by Forever Amber<\/a> that mentioned the lack of questions. \u00a0I was glad to know I was not the only one who evaluated people on their ability to ask questions.)<\/p>\n

I don’t understand people who don’t read. \u00a0I think this blog makes it obvious how I feel about books. \u00a0Just like with baking, I understand it isn’t for everyone. \u00a0However, why do some people seem to take pride in not reading? \u00a0And how is it possible to literally have no books in your house?<\/p>\n

And then there are the people who get annoyed with you for not keeping in touch but who never contact you. Don’t they realize communication goes in two directions? Maybe you just got tired of being the one who always initiates contact.<\/p>\n

At the risk of sounding as if I belong to a different era, why don’t people dress up for special occasions anymore? \u00a0My husband and I used to go to the symphony with fair regularity. \u00a0We would see people there in jeans and sweatshirts. \u00a0Why not wear nice clothes and make it a bit of an event? \u00a0And don’t even get me started on the people who wear their pajamas to the grocery store. If you are not a baby in arms you should not wear your pajamas in public.<\/p>\n

Again at the risk of sounding ancient, why do people insist on abbreviating words in such a ridiculous way when they are texting? \u00a0Sometimes it looks like a communication in code. Why abbreviate a word that is already very short? \u00a0Do you really save that much time typing “thnx” instead of \u00a0“thanks”? I have to say, I feel very proud of my teenage son because he insists on texting with proper grammar and spelling. \u00a0I seem to be doing something right.<\/p>\n

I realize I sound old and curmudgeonly with all these complaints. \u00a0Unfortunately, I feel old and curmudgeonly today. \u00a0Though I must admit my day has been immeasurably improved by the fact that I just used curmudgeonly in a sentence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
