{"id":362,"date":"2016-02-15T15:53:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T15:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2016\/02\/15\/in-which-we-try-again\/"},"modified":"2020-10-28T16:46:12","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T16:46:12","slug":"in-which-we-try-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2016\/02\/15\/in-which-we-try-again\/","title":{"rendered":"In Which We Try Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/IMG_20160214_133243-819x1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/IMG_20160214_133243-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Persephone Books--Family Roundabout\" width=\"512\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>If you have been reading my blog for a while you might remember that a few months ago the kids spent the weekend at my parent&#8217;s. \u00a0It was our anniversary and some time to ourselves sounded nice. \u00a0You also might remember that as we were leaving to drop off the kids my husband fell down the stairs and badly sprained both his ankles which, needless to say, put a bit of a damper on the weekend. \u00a0My parents thought that we deserved another attempt at a romantic weekend and we made plans for the kids to go there this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Did things go any better this time? \u00a0I&#8217;ll let you be the judge. \u00a0First of all, I had been sick all week with a nasty cold. \u00a0Not just a normal cold where I could carry on anyway but one of those colds where I couldn&#8217;t breathe through my nose at all so eating was difficult, my nose was red and peeling from blowing it so much, and I was constantly coughing from the tickle in my throat. \u00a0All of which left me looking so attractive, a bit like Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer to be honest. \u00a0 But we carried on because this was the weekend that worked for everyone and if we didn&#8217;t do it now we wouldn&#8217;t do it at all. \u00a0Besides, I was convinced I would wake up Saturday feeling slightly better. \u00a0I was right, my cold was down to normal cold proportions. \u00a0However, my husband woke up with the beginnings of the cold. \u00a0Of course.<\/p>\n<p>And we had to go to a funeral on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>By Sunday my husband was at the unable to breathe, blowing his nose constantly stage. \u00a0I was feeling a bit better and feeling sorry for myself because the weekend was a bit of a disaster. \u00a0Then he got called out for work. \u00a0It was 6 degrees F, he works outside and he was sick. \u00a0So I felt sorry for him. There he was, at work on a Sunday in the freezing cold and there I was, at home eating dinner by myself.<\/p>\n<p>So the lesson I learned from this weekend is that my husband and I do not do romantic weekends. \u00a0We do weekends where everything goes wrong. \u00a0It is probably best that we never plan a romantic weekend again. \u00a0I hate to think what would happen next time.<\/p>\n<p>At least the kids had a good time with my parents. \u00a0And we did enjoy the peace and quiet. \u00a0Speaking of which, I did notice some things about having kids gone. \u00a0My house stays clean for so long. \u00a0I wipe down the kitchen and I go back an hour later and there are still no dishes in the sink. \u00a0There are not any boat sized shoes by the front door. \u00a0There is so much silence. \u00a0We can have an entire conversation. \u00a0Amazing. \u00a0But at the same time, there is no one to take out the garbage, feed the pets, empty the dishwasher, or entertain us with their nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>I did get quite a bit of reading done. \u00a0Most of it was books that weren&#8217;t too special, fun to read but nothing I felt any great compulsion to write about.
