I went for a walk the other day. \u00a0It looked so warm and sunny but looks can be deceiving and, like a fool, I didn’t check the weather before I went out. \u00a0It was freezing! \u00a0The wind was blowing like crazy. \u00a0By the time I got back to the car I couldn’t feel my hands and I looked like I was crying because the wind kept blowing in my face and my eyes were tearing. \u00a0I had to drink two cups of tea in order to warm up. \u00a0It was worth it though. \u00a0I would much rather exercise outside. \u00a0The river was very high, it usually looks much calmer than this. We have gotten a ton of rain lately.<\/p>\n

I am reading two books right now, neither of which I am likely to write reviews for, not because I am not enjoying them but because I don’t feel motivated to review everything I read. \u00a0I am reading Bill Bryson’s The Mother Tongue<\/i>. \u00a0I just started it today and was enjoying it. \u00a0I am fascinated by words and language and how it develops so this sounded perfect for me. \u00a0Then I made the mistake of looking up reviews. \u00a0A lot of people complain of factual errors in it. \u00a0Now I am not sure what to think. \u00a0Probably I will keep reading. \u00a0I know Bill Bryson isn’t an expert on everything he writes about and this is supposed to be a light and entertaining read, not a scholarly treatise, but errors annoy me. \u00a0Has anyone read this? \u00a0Is it really full of errors?<\/p>\n

I am also reading The Last Hurrah<\/i> by Edwin O’Connor. \u00a0I think I might have mentioned this before. \u00a0My dad loaned me the book a while ago and I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. \u00a0It is a novel about a mayoral race and politics in America. \u00a0Apparently, a movie was made of it which starred Spencer Tracy. \u00a0I might have to look for that.<\/p>\n

I have also mentioned before that I don’t have a lot of people with whom to discuss books. \u00a0I do, however, have one friend who likes to read. \u00a0She isn’t nearly as obsessive a reader and our taste in books is vastly different but we do occasionally come across a book we are both interested in. \u00a0She happened to mention that she wanted to read War and Peace<\/i> and that is a book I have been debating trying to read. \u00a0Notice I said “trying to read” because I am by no means confident that I will finish it. \u00a0She suggested that we read it at the same time and discuss it periodically. \u00a0I think that is a good idea, especially for a book like that. \u00a0Discussing it might help keep everything straight and carry me through my inevitable desire to just give up. \u00a0She says it is the perfect book for us to read together, the war for her and the peace for me. \u00a0She gets bored if there isn’t a bit of death and misery in her books and I get frustrated if it is all doom and gloom.
