I don’t care that the apartment we are moving to is supposed to be temporary. I don’t care that it is on the small side for our family. I don’t care that there isn’t enough room for my books.

Wait a minute. I might be moving again.

Most of my books are going to have to live in boxes for the foreseeable future. Boxes that will be stacked in the walk-in closet in our bedroom. Yes, many women would fill a walk-in closet with clothes. I am planning on filling mine with books. That is not a permanent solution so I am afraid I am going to have to move again. That or kick my kids out and turn their rooms into a private library. Hmm, kids or books? It depends on the day.

I have been packing up my books and I only have part of one bookshelf to go. The number of boxes of books I have is simultaneously terrifying and satisfying. Since I have many of my shelves double-stacked I am finding books I forgot I owned which is a bit like going book shopping in my own house. However, I have actually been reading mainly on my Kindle lately since so many of my books are packed. I signed up for a trial membership of Kindle Unlimited and am blazing my way through all the Furrowed Middlebrow ebooks that are included. I have loved every single one I have read so far. A few of the Miss Silver books by Patricia Wentworth are available on Kindle Unlimited as well, which is making me very happy. If anyone has anything I absolutely should read before my free trial runs out please let me know. I actually don’t mind keeping it for a little while if there are enough books I am interested in but I won’t be keeping it for very long.

In the midst of all the packing and decision-making, we have been fitting in a few fun things. I think I mentioned last week that we went to the beach (hence the photo of the shells. Book photos are impossible since they are all packed.) and today we met my brother and his family at a state park. It was very nice to sit and chat with my sister-in-law for a few hours. I have also visited my parents, grandmother, and aunt and uncle, and gone out to lunch with a friend. (Everyone on that list is vaccinated and so am I.) I have seen more people in the last week than I have in the last year which is nice but it is a pity we are moving just as it is starting to be possible to visit with people. Oh well, they will have to come visit us in Ohio. Also, my daughter and I got haircuts and we both got ear piercings. We are basically new people at this point.

I announced to my family that I was taking the evening off from all moving-related activities. I am sitting on the couch surrounded by empty bookshelves, boxes of books, and endless lists. In just two weeks I shall be sitting on the same couch in a different living room but still surrounded by empty bookshelves, boxes of books, and endless lists.

Moving is absolutely not fun but I am sure I will be doing it again.
