This is not as good as it gets. \u00a0Your teenage years are not the best years of your life. Neither are your twenties. \u00a0Or your thirties. \u00a0See, the thing is, the best years of your life? \u00a0They are scattered throughout your life. \u00a0Some years are good, some are bad. \u00a0This moment, this year, this good or bad, is not all you get. \u00a0I hear tell that some of your best years can even be in your forties or above. \u00a0I know, the shock and horror!<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Be yourself. \u00a0It sounds like a trite self-help book but for once the self-help books are correct. \u00a0You can spend a lot of time trying to fit in but that is just a guarantee of feeling like an outsider. \u00a0Be who you are, do what you like, talk about what you like. \u00a0Authentic is good. \u00a0You will find the people you need in your life and they will like you for who you are.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0Enjoy that long hair and young body. \u00a0I am not saying it gets bad, just it will never be that good again. \u00a0Actually, just appreciate your body at any age. \u00a0You will always look at pictures from the past and wish you could have that body again. \u00a0Why not just appreciate it now?<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0You will always be shy. \u00a0You will always be anxious. \u00a0You will learn to manage it. \u00a0Take a deep breath and try that new thing. \u00a0You won&#8217;t die.<\/p>\n<p>5. \u00a0Buy the books, all the books. \u00a0You know all those books you see at books sales and you don&#8217;t buy because they are readily available at the library? \u00a0One of these days the libraries are going to do a huge cull and you won&#8217;t be able to check them out anymore. \u00a0Buy them now. \u00a0It will save you time and money because you won&#8217;t have to spend exorbitant amounts on books you have spent ages stalking online. \u00a0Just buy the books. \u00a0You&#8217;re welcome.<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0Marriage is work. \u00a0Babies are work. \u00a0Teenagers are even more work. \u00a0You will work on all three. \u00a0Again, you won&#8217;t die. \u00a0Marriage, babies, and teenagers are also a lot of fun. \u00a0It just depends on the day.<\/p>\n<p>7. \u00a0Life is not an episode of &#8220;Friends.&#8221; \u00a0I am sure there is a more up-to-date TV reference but I don&#8217;t have it so we will go with &#8220;Friends.&#8221; \u00a0Not everyone lives their lives in a circle of best friends all the time. \u00a0Not everyone wants to. \u00a0You are one of the people who doesn&#8217;t want to. \u00a0That is fine, reference number 2 above.<\/p>\n<p>8. \u00a0You will never be able to dance, or sing, or do crafty things. \u00a0But one day you will start a blog and find a place for all those words swirling around in your head. \u00a0And your blog will make you pick up a camera and that will be kind of fun too. \u00a0You will decide dancing and singing and crafty things are over-rated.<\/p>\n<p>9. \u00a0People are flawed. \u00a0Their flaws will hurt you. \u00a0Try not to be too judgmental. \u00a0It will be hard but it will make you a better person and then maybe your flaws won&#8217;t hurt them.<\/p>\n<p>10. \u00a0Stop worrying. \u00a0Worry is like one of those roundabout things at the playground. \u00a0You know what I mean, you start it spinning and then hop on and the centrifugal force keeps you on. \u00a0Once you start worrying it is hard to stop. \u00a0The force of it just keeps you on the same spinning cycle. \u00a0It isn&#8217;t good. \u00a0Don&#8217;t do it. \u00a0I know, easier said than done. \u00a0Do your best.<\/p>\n<p>And now, go buy the books. \u00a0Your future self thanks you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
