{"id":274,"date":"2017-01-25T12:32:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-25T12:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2017\/01\/25\/golden-moments-3\/"},"modified":"2020-10-28T02:16:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T02:16:27","slug":"golden-moments-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/index.php\/2017\/01\/25\/golden-moments-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Golden Moments #3"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20161213_130319-657x1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20161213_130319-657x1024.jpg\" alt=\"boston\" width=\"410\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I was going to write a post about books for your horse-mad child. \u00a0The stack of books has been sitting on the floor next to the couch for a week now. \u00a0It will probably still be there next week. \u00a0And there we have the perils of January. \u00a0Good intentions go by the wayside, blog posts never get written, and I continue to attempt to sink the January blues in countless books and too much chocolate. \u00a0There are worse ways to go.<\/p>\n<p>However, this is not a post in which to moan about winter but instead, one that requires concentrating on the bright spots and there have been a few scattered through the all-too-dark (literally) days. \u00a0I was in Boston again recently and as usual, the Boston Public Library pulled me in. \u00a0Last time I was in there it was night time and I have been meaning to go back because I wanted to see the courtyard. \u00a0I like courtyards. \u00a0They feel a bit secret gardenish and I have always wanted my own secret garden ever since reading the book as a child. \u00a0Of course, any courtyard in the middle of the library in a city is not exactly a secret but still, it gives the same feeling. Well, at least it did if you ignored the gaggle of teen-aged girls taking selfies. \u00a0I resolutely looked the other way and pretended they didn&#8217;t exist. \u00a0It&#8217;s fine, they did the same thing with me.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170113_155812-727x1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170113_155812-727x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Boston Public Library courtyard\" width=\"454\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170113_160738-931x1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170113_160738-931x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Boston Public Library courtyard\" width=\"582\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that pretty? \u00a0Imagine what it must look like in the summer. \u00a0Obviously, I will have to go back and take more photos then. \u00a0Hopefully, the gaggle of girls will have achieved the perfect selfie by then and moved on.<\/p>\n<p>I bought two books recently. \u00a0You know any Golden Moments post is going to involve a book or two. \u00a0Actually, I think it might be three. \u00a0I am pretty sure there is another one that should show up sometime soon but I can&#8217;t remember what it is and we will leave that for another pleasant surprise on a cold and wintry day.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170124_084635-1024x624.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170124_084635-1024x624.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"390\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I picked up the book about the Duchess of Devonshire on a whim. \u00a0She is a woman that seems to pop up in books quite a bit but I don&#8217;t feel that I know much about her. \u00a0This was on my favorite library book sale rack for 50 cents so hopefully, I will shortly be more informed. \u00a0I also got <i>The Feast<\/i> by Margaret Kennedy. \u00a0I know this was because of a review I read on a book blog somewhere but, as usual, I can&#8217;t remember which blog. \u00a0The book showed up with a beautiful but absolutely destroyed dust jacket. Plus, the sellers had stuck a sticker smack in the middle. \u00a0Sacrilege. \u00a0However, I wasn&#8217;t expecting a dust jacket at all and the book itself is in good condition so I&#8217;ll let it go.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170116_175824-576x1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.holdsuponhappiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/20170116_175824-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"riding lesson\" width=\"360\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>My daughter had another riding lesson and she loved it just as much as the first time. \u00a0She spent the car ride in discoursing on the causes and cures for colic in horses. \u00a0A close friend of mine came to the lesson. We spent the hour freezing in the dark and cold, admiring Celia at every turn, and talking like mad. \u00a0A good time was had by all.<\/p>\n<p>My plans were rescheduled on Saturday. \u00a0Yes, that qualifies as a golden moment. \u00a0I was tired and just a tad grumpy.
