I enjoy her poems because they feel as if she is simply speaking to the reader. It is like having a conversation with a friend. They give the deceptive feeling that we could have written them ourselves. And then, of course, we realize that no, no we couldn&#8217;t have.<\/p>\n<p><i>If you asked me &#8216;What&#8217;s new&#8217;, I have nothing to say<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Except that the garden is growing.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I had a slight cold but it&#8217;s better today.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I&#8217;m content with the way things are going.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Yes, he is the same as he usually is,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Still eating and sleeping and snoring.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I get on with my work. He gets on with his.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I know this is all very boring.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>There was drama enough in my turbulent past:<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Tears and passion&#8211;I&#8217;ve used up a tankful.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>No news is good news, and long may it last,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>If nothing much happens, I&#8217;m thankful.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>A happier cabbage you never did see,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>My vegetable spirits are soaring.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>If you&#8217;re after excitement, steer well clear of me.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I want to go on being boring.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I don&#8217;t go to parties.
