That last one surprised me. She invented the LongPen device which makes it possible to remotely write using a tablet and a robotic arm. The list of her books is impressive. <i>The Handmaid&#8217;s Tale <\/i>is probably the one most people are familiar with especially since it has been adapted for television. I haven&#8217;t read much of her poetry but I like this.<\/p>\n<p><i>This is the plum season, the nights<\/i><br \/>\n<i>blue and distended, the moon<\/i><br \/>\n<i>hazed, this is the season of peaches<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>with their lush lobed bulbs<\/i><br \/>\n<i>that glow in the dusk, apples<\/i><br \/>\n<i>that drop and rot<\/i><br \/>\n<i>sweetly, their brown skins veined as glands<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>No more the shrill voices that cried Need Need<\/i><br \/>\n<i>from the cold pond, bladed\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and urgent as new grass<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Now it is the crickets\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>that say Ripe Ripe<\/i><br \/>\n<i>slurred in the darkness, while the plums<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>dripping on the lawn outside\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>our window, bursts<\/i><br \/>\n<i>with a sound like thick syrup<\/i><br \/>\n<i>muffled and slow<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>The air is still<\/i><br \/>\n<i>warm, flesh moves over\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>flesh, there is no<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>hurry<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Late August<\/i><br \/>\nMargaret Atwood<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo by\u00a0Waldemar Brandt\u00a0on\u00a0Unsplash Margaret Atwood is a Canadian novelist, poet, essayist, and inventor.
