I don&#8217;t remember ever reading her poems before and I missed a lot by not doing so. I used one of her poems a few months ago but when I heard that she died I knew I would feature her again. Actually, I am giving you two of her poems because I couldn&#8217;t choose. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.<\/p>\n<p><i>Ordinarily, I go to the woods<\/i><br \/>\n<i>alone, with not a single<\/i><br \/>\n<i>friend, for they are all smilers<\/i><br \/>\n<i>and talkers, and therefore<\/i><br \/>\n<i>unsuitable.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I don&#8217;t really want to be<\/i><br \/>\n<i>witnessed talking to the catbirds<\/i><br \/>\n<i>or hugging the black oak tree.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I have my\u00a0way of\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>praying, as you no doubt have<\/i><br \/>\n<i>yours.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Besides, when I am alone I can<\/i><br \/>\n<i>become invisible. I can sit<\/i><br \/>\n<i>on the top of a dune as motionless<\/i><br \/>\n<i>as an uprise of weeds,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>until the foxes run by<\/i><br \/>\n<i>unconcerned. I can hear the\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>almost\u00a0<\/i><br \/>\n<i>unhearable sound of the roses<\/i><br \/>\n<i>singing.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>If you have ever gone to the<\/i><br \/>\n<i>woods with me, I must love<\/i><br \/>\n<i>you very much.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>How I Go to the Woods<\/i><br \/>\nMary Oliver<\/p>\n<p><i>I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers<\/i><br \/>\n<i>flow in the right direction, will the earth turn<\/i><br \/>\n<i>as it was taught, and if not how shall<\/i><br \/>\n<i>I correct it?<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>can I do better?<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows<\/i><br \/>\n<i>can do it and I\u00a0am, well,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>hopeless.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>am I going to get rheumatism,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>lockjaw, dementia?<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.<\/i><br \/>\n<i>And gave it up.
